Handjie Tennis

Privacy policy

Version: 27 October 2026 · Applies to the Handjie Tennis app on Google Play (Android).

Handjie Tennis is a free game that knows as little about you as possible. Here we explain what is stored, why, where, for how long, and what your rights are under South Africa’s Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

In short: playing on your own sends nothing anywhere. Only when you play with friends or use My friends does the game send the few things needed for that (the name you choose, your player, your game moves, your friends list). If you allow notifications, Google’s Firebase delivers our game news to your phone (section 4a). No ads, no tracking, nothing sold. You can delete your friends data at any time, in the game (section 9).

Afrikaans, kortliks: alleen speel stuur niks nêrens heen nie. Net as jy saam met vriende speel of My vriende gebruik, stuur die speletjie die bietjie wat daarvoor nodig is (die naam wat jy kies, jou speler, jou skote en jou vriendelys). As jy kennisgewings toelaat, bring Google se Firebase ons speletjie-nuus na jou foon. Geen advertensies, geen opsporing, niks word verkoop nie. Jy kan jou vriende-inligting enige tyd in die speletjie uitvee.

1. Who is responsible

The “responsible party” (POPIA) for information collected by Handjie Tennis is:

Legal name

Registration number
2026/492510/07
Physical address
39 Delport Avenue, Oatlands, Krugersdorp, 1739, South Africa

2. On your phone only

Your settings and progress (the player and court you chose, your skins, coins, points and games played) are saved only on your phone. Uninstalling the game deletes them. Playing on your own sends nothing anywhere.

In a browser (the game at /play), they are saved only in that browser, and clearing the browser's data for this site deletes them. The game's files come from Cloudflare, which serves this site.

3. Play with friends (rooms)

When you make or join a room, the game connects to the game’s server and sends:

The server passes these only to the players in that room. The room (who is in it, their names and players) is deleted when the room closes, at most a few hours after everyone has left. Game moves are passed on and not kept.

4. My friends

Only if you open My friends: the game makes a random player number on your phone (it is not linked to your name, phone number, Google account or device) and the server gives you a friend code. The server keeps:

Someone can see you only after you have both said yes to being friends. Your friends see your name, your player and whether you are online, in a room or playing. An invite sends your room’s code to the friend you invite.

4a. News on your phone (notifications)

Only if you allow notifications (Android asks once): the game joins our news list at Firebase Cloud Messaging, Google’s notification service, so we can send a short note about a new version or game news. For this, Firebase makes an address for the game on your phone (a random installation number and a notification token). It is not linked to your name, your friend code or your account, and we don’t see who is on the list: every note goes to everyone on it. Nothing about how you play is sent.

To stop the notes: turn off notifications for Handjie Tennis in your phone’s settings, or uninstall the game.

5. Why we use it

Only to make these features work: to show friends the same game, to let friends find and invite each other, to show who is online, and (if you allowed it) to send game news to your phone. Nothing else: no advertising, no profiling, no analytics.

6. Who else handles it

The server runs on Cloudflare (Cloudflare, Inc.), which processes the information on our behalf, under its data processing terms, to run the service. Its servers may be outside South Africa (for example in Europe); Cloudflare is bound by data protection rules that protect your information at least as well as POPIA. News notifications go through Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google), which handles the game’s address on your phone on our behalf, under its data processing terms; its servers may also be outside South Africa. We share nothing with anyone else, and we never sell anything.

7. How long we keep it

8. How we protect it

Everything travels encrypted (TLS). Your player number’s secret is stored only as a one-way hash, and nobody can see you as online unless you both said yes to being friends.

9. Your rights, and deleting your data

You may ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to its use. To delete everything the server keeps about you yourself, at once:

10. Complaints

Please contact us first; we’d like to put it right. If you’re not satisfied, you can complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa):

11. Children

The game is meant for ages 13 and up. Please don’t use your full real name as your name in the game.

12. Permissions, changes and contact

The app asks for internet (to play with friends), vibration (a short buzz when you lose a round) and, once, whether it may show notifications (news); nothing else. If this policy changes, this page is updated (the version date is at the top) before that version of the game is released. Questions: lekkerlocal.apps@gmail.com.
